LS21031 is a novel small molecule triple reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI) being developed by Suzhou Lansen Pharmaceutical for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). It is designed to simultaneously inhibit the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE), and dopamine (DA) by targeting their respective transporters (SERT, NET, and DAT). By increasing the synaptic concentrations of all three monoamine neurotransmitters, LS21031 aims to provide a more comprehensive therapeutic effect and a faster onset of action compared to traditional selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This approach is particularly intended to address core symptoms of depression that are often poorly managed by existing therapies, such as anhedonia, lack of motivation, and cognitive impairment.
