LSA-3-rec is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by the Biomedical Parasitology Unit at Institut Pasteur (Paris, France). It is designed to prevent malaria caused by *Plasmodium falciparum* by targeting the Liver Stage Antigen-3 (PfLSA-3), a highly conserved pre-erythrocytic antigen expressed during the liver stage of the parasite's life cycle. By inducing immune responses against the liver stage, the vaccine aims to prevent the parasite from progressing to the symptomatic blood stage of infection. LSA-3-rec has been evaluated in Phase I/IIa clinical trials in healthy adult volunteers to assess its safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy against controlled human malaria infection (CHMI) using sporozoite challenge.
