LSAM-Cisplatin (Large Surface Area Microparticle Cisplatin) is a proprietary microparticle formulation of the cytotoxic chemotherapy agent cisplatin, developed by NanOlogy (a business unit of DFB Pharmaceuticals) for the treatment of aggressive pediatric brain tumors, specifically diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). Utilizing the CritiTech Purcision™ technology platform, the drug is engineered into Large Surface Area Microparticles (LSAMs) designed for stereotactic intratumoral administration. This approach allows for high local concentrations of cisplatin directly within the tumor while minimizing systemic toxicity. The mechanism of action involves cisplatin binding to DNA to form intra-strand and inter-strand crosslinks, which disrupts DNA replication and transcription, ultimately leading to apoptosis in malignant cells.
