Overview

LSKL is a **tetrapeptide (Leu-Ser-Lys-Leu)** derived from the latency-associated peptide (LAP) region of TGF-β and functions as a **competitive antagonist of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)** by inhibiting thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1)-mediated activation of TGF-β1. By blocking the interaction between TSP-1 and LAP, LSKL **prevents progression of fibrotic diseases** such as renal interstitial fibrosis and hepatic fibrosis, and has been shown to alleviate subarachnoid fibrosis, hydrocephalus, and improve cognitive function after subarachnoid hemorrhage in preclinical models. LSKL can cross the blood-brain barrier and is primarily used as a research tool; it is not an approved therapeutic and is for research use only[1][5][7][9][10].
