LTX-007 is a small molecule inhibitor of serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT) developed by Leal Therapeutics. It is designed to modulate sphingolipid metabolism by inhibiting SPT, the rate-limiting enzyme in the de novo synthesis of sphingolipids. This inhibition aims to reduce the accumulation of excessive ceramides and other sphingolipids in the central nervous system (CNS), which is implicated in the pathogenesis of various neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders. LTX-007 is currently in preclinical development for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), rare sphingolipidoses, and obesity.
