Overview

Lu AF20513 is an investigational therapeutic vaccine developed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It is designed as an active immunotherapy targeting beta-amyloid (Aβ) peptides, which are implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease through plaque formation in the brain. The vaccine consists of engineered mixed-peptides containing three repeats of the first 12 amino acids of beta-amyloid interspersed with sequences from tetanus toxin, aiming to stimulate pre-existing T-cells generated by childhood tetanus vaccination. This approach is intended to induce a robust immune response, leading to the production of high-affinity polyclonal antibodies against Aβ and promoting its clearance from the brain. The goal was both therapeutic and preventive intervention in Alzheimer’s disease progression[1][4][5][6][7].
