Luc-Treg refers to regulatory T cells (Tregs) that have been genetically engineered, typically via lentiviral transduction, to express the luciferase protein. In preclinical research, these cells are utilized as a bioluminescent control to monitor the in vivo persistence, expansion, and biodistribution of Tregs using imaging systems such as the In Vivo Imaging System (IVIS). They are frequently employed in studies investigating CAR-Treg therapies for autoimmune conditions, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), to serve as a baseline for comparing the fitness, kinetic profile, and suppressive functionality of engineered cells without the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) construct.
