Lukasma

Lukasma is an oral pharmaceutical product containing montelukast, a selective and potent leukotriene receptor antagonist developed and marketed by the Argentine company Fortbenton. It works by binding with high affinity to the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CysLT1), thereby blocking the physiological actions of cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, LTE4). These leukotrienes are inflammatory mediators that contribute to airway edema, smooth muscle contraction, and altered cellular activity in respiratory and allergic conditions. Lukasma is primarily indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma and the symptomatic relief of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. In clinical practice, it is also utilized for dermatological conditions such as chronic idiopathic urticaria due to its ability to inhibit leukotriene-mediated skin inflammation.
