Lumbrokinase is a group of serine proteases (protein hydrolytic enzymes) extracted from earthworms, primarily Lumbricus rubellus. It is best known for its potent fibrinolytic activity—breaking down fibrin, the main protein component of blood clots. Lumbrokinase acts both directly and indirectly to dissolve thrombi by degrading fibrin and enhancing plasmin activity (the body's natural clot-dissolving enzyme). This mechanism underlies its use in supporting cardiovascular health by reducing blood viscosity and improving circulation.
