Overview

Lumiflavin is a synthetic flavin compound and a photolysis product of riboflavin (vitamin B2). It acts as an inhibitor of riboflavin uptake and has been shown to reduce riboflavin enrichment in cancer stem-like cells (CSCs), thereby sensitizing these cells to the effects of cisplatin. Lumiflavin has demonstrated synergistic cytotoxic effects with cisplatin in ovarian cancer models by enhancing DNA damage response and increasing apoptosis. Its primary use is experimental and research-focused; it is not approved for clinical use. Mechanistically it interferes with cellular vitamin B2 metabolism and may modulate signaling pathways such as Notch in CSCs[1][5][3].
