LungVax is an investigational vaccine designed to prevent lung cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), in individuals at high risk or with a history of early-stage disease. Developed using technology similar to the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, it employs a viral vector (ChAdOx2) to deliver DNA encoding neoantigens—proteins that arise from cancer-specific mutations found on abnormal lung cells. The immune system is trained to recognize these neoantigens and mount a targeted T-cell response against cells displaying them, aiming to eliminate pre-cancerous or early malignant cells before they can progress into clinically significant tumors. The vaccine is being developed by researchers at the University of Oxford, University College London, and the Francis Crick Institute with support from Cancer Research UK and the CRIS Cancer Foundation[1][3][5][6][9].
