Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LuraLean Cardio is a combination dietary supplement formulated to support cardiovascular health by managing cholesterol levels and body weight. It consists of LuraLean, a proprietary, highly purified, high-molecular-weight glucomannan fiber derived from the konjac root (*Amorphophallus konjac*), and red yeast rice extract. Glucomannan is a soluble fiber that promotes satiety and reduces the intestinal absorption of dietary fats and cholesterol by increasing gastric viscosity and sequestering bile acids. Red yeast rice extract contains monacolins, specifically monacolin K, which is chemically identical to lovastatin and acts as a competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in endogenous cholesterol synthesis. This dual-action approach targets both the exogenous absorption and endogenous production of cholesterol.
