Overview

Luramist is an investigational metered-dose transdermal spray (MDTS) formulation of testosterone. It was developed by VIVUS, Inc., under license from Acrux, specifically for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women. The product utilized a proprietary delivery system designed to provide a low dose of testosterone systemically through the skin. Clinical development reached Phase 2, but VIVUS ultimately ceased development of the program to focus resources on other products in its portfolio, such as the obesity medication Qsymia.
