Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lurasidone injectable suspension (DSP-1349M) is a long-acting formulation of the atypical antipsychotic lurasidone. It acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors and has additional activity as a partial agonist at 5-HT1A receptors and antagonist at 5-HT7 and 5-HT2C receptors. Lurasidone is primarily developed for the treatment of schizophrenia but is also used in bipolar depression. The injectable formulation (DSP-1349M) was designed to provide sustained drug delivery for improved adherence in patients with schizophrenia[1][3][5]. The drug was originally developed by Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma (now Sumitomo Pharma), with Sunovion Pharmaceuticals involved in clinical development[1][3].
