This is a combination therapy consisting of luseogliflozin, an oral sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and ranibizumab, an intravitreal anti–vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) monoclonal antibody fragment. The combination is investigated for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Luseogliflozin lowers blood glucose by inhibiting renal glucose reabsorption, while ranibizumab inhibits VEGF-A to reduce vascular permeability and pathological angiogenesis in the retina. The rationale for this combination is to address both systemic metabolic dysfunction and local retinal pathology in DME, potentially reducing the frequency of intravitreal injections required for disease control[1][2][4].
