lusutrombopag

Lusutrombopag is an orally bioavailable, small molecule thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist used to treat thrombocytopenia in adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to undergo a medical or dental procedure. It works by binding to the transmembrane domain of human TPO receptors expressed on megakaryocytes, stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytic progenitor cells from hematopoietic stem cells, which leads to increased platelet production. Lusutrombopag was developed by Shionogi and is marketed under the brand name Mulpleta. The drug received its first approval in Japan in 2015 and was later approved by the FDA in 2018 for this indication[1][4][5][6][7].
