Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lute-gen is a branded nutraceutical complex composed of the macular xanthophyll carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, derived from marigold (Tagetes erecta) flowers. Developed by Bio-gen Extracts, it is designed to enhance macular pigment optical density (MPOD), which serves as a natural filter for high-energy blue light and provides antioxidant protection against photo-oxidative damage in the retina. Beyond ocular health, Lute-gen is being investigated for its role in the eye-brain axis to support cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and processing speed. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials, including studies on digital eye strain and cognitive performance in teenagers.
