Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LuteinOfta is an oral nutritional supplement containing the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, specifically formulated for administration to very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm neonates. Developed by SOOFT Italia in collaboration with the Saint Anna Foundation, the product aims to mitigate oxidative stress-related morbidities common in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), including retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Lutein and zeaxanthin function as potent antioxidants and free radical scavengers, compensating for the low levels of natural carotenoids typically found in preterm infants and protecting vulnerable tissues from oxidative damage during the critical early weeks of life.
