Lutetium (177Lu) neobombesin (also known as [177Lu]-NeoB or 177Lu-NeoBOMB1) is an investigational peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) developed by Advanced Accelerator Applications, a Novartis company. It consists of the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR) antagonist peptide NeoB (NeoBOMB1) conjugated to the beta-emitting radioisotope lutetium-177 via the chelator DOTA. Lutetium (177Lu) neobombesin is designed to target and treat tumors that overexpress GRPR, delivering localized cytotoxic beta radiation directly to cancer cells. It was evaluated in clinical trials (such as the NeoRay trial) for the treatment of advanced or metastatic GRPR-overexpressing solid tumors, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), glioblastoma, and lung cancer. In July 2026, Novartis discontinued the development of lutetium (177Lu) neobombesin because early clinical data did not support advancing it to the next stage of development.
