**Lutetium-177-labeled control liposomes** are non-targeted, DTPA-chelated liposomal radiopharmaceutical research constructs developed as comparator particles for targeted lutetium-177 immunoliposomes in malignant mesothelioma models. The formulation contains phospholipids, cholesterol, PEGylated lipid, and DMPE-DTPA, with lutetium-177 chelated to the DTPA-containing lipid. Unlike the CD24/CD26-targeted immunoliposomes studied alongside it, this control construct has no antibody-based tumor-targeting ligand; its antitumor activity is mediated by beta-particle radiation emitted by lutetium-177 after cellular or passive tumor-associated liposome exposure. In vitro, it showed cytotoxic and pro-apoptotic activity against mesothelioma cells, but was less effective than CD24/CD26-targeted lutetium-177 immunoliposomes.
