Lutetium-177 lipiodol is a **radiopharmaceutical formulation** combining the beta- and gamma-emitting radionuclide **lutetium-177** with lipiodol for transarterial injection, primarily aimed at treating **hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)**. Lipiodol, an oily contrast medium, selectively accumulates in HCC nodules after transarterial administration, acting both as an embolic agent and a vehicle for the radionuclide. Lutetium-177, with a **~6.7 day half-life**, emits beta particles to induce tumoricidal effects and gamma photons for SPECT imaging (theranostics).
