Lutetium Lu 177-PSMA is a targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy designed for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer, specifically metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). The drug consists of the beta-emitting radioisotope Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) conjugated to a small-molecule ligand that targets the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a protein highly overexpressed on the surface of most prostate cancer cells. Upon intravenous administration, the compound binds to PSMA-expressing cells and is internalized, allowing the Lu-177 to deliver localized, high-energy radiation that induces double-stranded DNA breaks and subsequent apoptosis. NRG Pallas is a primary developer and manufacturer of the high-purity, no-carrier-added (n.c.a.) Lutetium-177 isotope used in these therapies. The development of Lu-177-PSMA therapies has reached Phase 3 clinical trials, showing significant efficacy in improving survival outcomes for patients who have progressed on conventional treatments.
