LUXVIVO is a laser-activated nanoparticle cancer therapy being developed by Vitanova Biomedical. The therapy utilizes proprietary yttrium-based nanoparticles that are activated by laser light to induce a process known as Light-Activated Intracellular Acidosis (LAIA). This mechanism causes a rapid decrease in the intracellular pH of cancer cells, triggering apoptosis while sparing adjacent healthy tissue. LUXVIVO has been granted Minor Use/Major Species (MUMS) designation by the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine for the treatment of canine melanoma, hemangiosarcoma, and osteosarcoma. Additionally, an Investigational New Animal Drug (INAD) application has been filed for its use in canine melanoma. The company is pursuing efficacy in companion animals (including equine and feline models) as a precursor to human clinical applications.
