Overview
LW231 is a novel, orally administered small molecule developed as a bifunctional agent for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It acts as both an HBV capsid assembly modulator and a cGAS-STING pathway agonist, representing a first-in-class approach that combines direct antiviral activity with immune stimulation. The drug was initially developed by Shanghai Changsen Pharmaceutical and is now being advanced by Shanghai Longwood Biopharmaceuticals. Clinical trials have evaluated its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and initial antiviral efficacy in healthy volunteers and patients with chronic hepatitis B[1][2][3][4][7][9].
