Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LWNVIVAT (Limiting West Nile Virus Impact by Novel Vaccines And Therapeutics Approaches) is a research and development program focused on creating a dual-action solution for West Nile Virus (WNV). Coordinated by the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute and involving partners such as Hipra, the project is developing both a prophylactic vaccine and therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. The vaccine candidates utilize recombinant protein and Virus-Like Particle (VLP) platforms to induce protective immunity, while the therapeutic antibodies are designed to neutralize the virus in infected individuals. Funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe program with 5.7 million euros, the initiative aims to provide the first approved human vaccine and specific therapeutic options for WNV, which currently lacks specific medical countermeasures.
