Overview

LWP779 is an investigational, orally administered small molecule P2Y12 receptor antagonist being developed by Longwood Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of ischemic stroke. It functions by selectively and potently inhibiting the P2Y12 receptor on platelets, which prevents adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-mediated platelet activation and aggregation, a key process in the formation of arterial thrombi. The drug is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation in healthy participants to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics, including the characterization of its active metabolites and the impact of food on its absorption. By targeting platelet aggregation, LWP779 aims to provide a therapeutic option for the prevention and management of thrombotic events associated with ischemic stroke.
