LY-517717 is an investigational oral small molecule anticoagulant that acts as a direct inhibitor of activated Factor Xa. It was initially developed by Amgen and later licensed to Eli Lilly. The drug was studied for the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE), particularly after total hip or knee replacement surgery, where patients are at increased risk for blood clots in the legs (deep vein thrombosis) and lungs (pulmonary embolism). Preclinical studies demonstrated high selectivity for Factor Xa, antithrombotic effects, and favorable safety with minimal bleeding risk.
