Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LY038 is a biosimilar candidate of teriparatide, a recombinant form of the human parathyroid hormone (residues 1-34). Developed by Luye Pharma (specifically its subsidiary Boan Biotech), LY038 is intended for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture. Teriparatide acts as an anabolic agent that stimulates bone formation by binding to the parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTH1R). When administered intermittently at low doses, it promotes osteoblastic activity more than osteoclastic activity, leading to an increase in bone mineral density and improved bone strength. LY038 is designed to be highly similar to the reference product, Forteo, in terms of safety, efficacy, and quality.
