Overview

LY2140023 + aqueous activated charcoal is a combination of LY2140023 (pomaglumetad methionil) and aqueous activated charcoal. LY2140023 is a prodrug that is metabolized to LY404039, a highly selective agonist for **metabotropic glutamate receptor 2** (mGlu2) and **metabotropic glutamate receptor 3** (mGlu3)[1][3][5]. It was developed as an oral antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders. LY2140023 acts by modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission, reducing presynaptic glutamate release in regions where mGlu2/3 receptors are expressed. This mechanism aims to balance dysregulated cortical activity implicated in schizophrenia. Clinical trials tested its efficacy and tolerability, with mixed results on symptom improvement compared to placebo or standard antipsychotics[1][2][3][4][5]. Aquaous activated charcoal, when co-administered, is typically used to adsorb drugs in the gastrointestinal tract and limit absorption, commonly for pharmacokinetic or overdose studies; no evidence supports an intrinsic pharmacologic effect for charcoal beyond adsorption.
