Overview

LY2787106 is a fully humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the peptide hormone hepcidin. By binding to and neutralizing hepcidin, it prevents ferroportin internalization and restores iron efflux from cells, thereby allowing transferrin-mediated iron transport to the bone marrow. This mechanism is intended to counteract anemia associated with cancer by mobilizing iron stores for erythropoiesis. The drug was developed by Eli Lilly and Company as an antianaemic agent but development was discontinued after phase 1 clinical trials in patients with cancer-associated anemia[1][3][4][5][6].
