LY2878735 is an investigational small molecule dual serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) developed by Eli Lilly for the treatment of chronic pain, including chronic visceral pain. It acts by inhibiting the serotonin transporter (SERT) and the norepinephrine transporter (NET) with high affinity, designed to provide a more balanced inhibition profile compared to existing SNRIs. The compound has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety, pharmacokinetics, and brain SERT occupancy using PET imaging. It is administered orally and undergoes metabolism in part via the CYP2D6 pathway.
