LY2880070 is an orally administered, selective, adenosine triphosphate-competitive small molecule inhibitor of checkpoint kinase 1 (CHK1). CHK1 is a protein kinase that plays a critical role in the DNA damage response by mediating cell-cycle arrest and facilitating DNA repair. By inhibiting CHK1, LY2880070 disrupts the ability of cancer cells to repair damaged DNA, leading to mitotic catastrophe and apoptosis. This mechanism may slow or stop the growth of cancer cells, particularly when used alone or in combination with DNA-damaging agents such as gemcitabine. The drug has been investigated primarily for advanced or metastatic cancers.
