Overview

Lycium barbarum glycopeptide (LbGp) is a bioactive glycoprotein extracted from the berries of *Lycium barbarum* (Goji), a staple of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a complex molecule consisting of approximately 30% protein linked to glycans, primarily composed of glucose, arabinose, and galactose, via O-linkages. LbGp has demonstrated significant neuroprotective, anti-aging, and antioxidant properties in preclinical models. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of key longevity and stress-response transcription factors, including DAF-16/FOXO, SKN-1/Nrf2, and HSF-1, as well as the modulation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. LbGp is currently being investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating major depressive disorder (MDD), Parkinson's disease, and normal-tension glaucoma, where it appears to protect retinal ganglion cells and restore neuronal function.
