Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lycium chinense extract is a botanical extract derived from the fruit of the Chinese wolfberry or goji berry, a plant in the Solanaceae family traditionally used in Chinese medicine. The extract is rich in bioactive compounds, including lycium polysaccharides, flavonoids, amino acids, and lignans such as lyciumlignan D and lyciumphenyl propanoid A. Clinical research, including studies by BIOMIX Company, has demonstrated its potential to enhance attention and cognitive function in healthy individuals. Preclinical evidence also suggests that the extract may ameliorate post-menopausal obesity and metabolic dysfunction by modulating the expression of Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma), Glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4), and Estrogen receptors (ER-alpha and ER-beta). Beyond its use as a functional food and medicinal herb for diabetes and inflammation, it is utilized as a cosmetic ingredient for its antioxidant and skin-soothing properties.
