Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lydolyte (DW-5LBT) is a topical lidocaine patch being co-developed by D. Western Therapeutics Institute and MEDRx for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia (neuropathic pain following shingles). The product utilizes MEDRx's proprietary Ionic Liquid Transdermal System (ILTS®) technology, which incorporates ionic liquids to improve the solubility and skin permeability of the active ingredient. Lidocaine, a small molecule local anesthetic, functions by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on the internal surface of nerve membranes. This action prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby reducing the transmission of pain signals from the affected area. Lydolyte is designed as a next-generation alternative to the Lidoderm® patch, aiming for improved delivery and efficacy. As of mid-2024, the drug has progressed to the NDA/BLA filing stage with the U.S. FDA.
