Overview

Lym-X-Sorb (LXS) is a proprietary lipid-based drug delivery technology and organized lipid matrix designed to enhance the oral bioavailability of lipophilic and poorly water-soluble compounds. Developed by BioMolecular Products, Inc., the system is composed of three FDA Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) components: lysophosphatidylcholine, monoglyceride, and free fatty acids, typically in a 1:4:2 molar ratio. The technology functions by mimicking the natural products of lipid digestion, forming chylomicron-like particles in the gastrointestinal tract that facilitate the absorption of the guest molecule via the lymphatic system, thereby bypassing hepatic first-pass metabolism. Lym-X-Sorb has been notably utilized to formulate the synthetic retinoid fenretinide (4-HPR) for the treatment of neuroblastoma and other cancers, and it is also employed as a nutritional supplement to improve fat and fat-soluble vitamin absorption in patients with cystic fibrosis or pancreatic insufficiency.
