Overview

Lymecycline is a broad-spectrum, second-generation, semi-synthetic tetracycline antibiotic primarily used for the treatment of acne vulgaris and other susceptible bacterial infections. It is also prescribed for chest and sinus infections, sexually transmitted infections (such as chlamydia), soft tissue infections, rickettsial fever, trachoma (an eye infection), and abdominal infections. Lymecycline acts as a bacteriostatic agent by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit in bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis through prevention of aminoacyl-tRNA attachment to the ribosomal acceptor site. This action stops bacterial growth rather than directly killing bacteria. The drug is well absorbed orally and widely distributed in body tissues including skin and lungs; it has minimal hepatic metabolism and is mainly excreted renally[1][2][3][6].
