Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lynovex (NM001) is a first-in-class, multi-modal small molecule therapy being developed by NovaBiotics Ltd. for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF). The drug is a proprietary formulation of cysteamine, an aminothiol repurposed from its established use in treating cystinosis. Lynovex exhibits a unique triple mechanism of action: it acts as a mucoactive (mucolytic) agent by reducing disulfide bonds to break down thick mucus, functions as an antibiofilm agent to disrupt bacterial communities, and serves as an antibacterial adjunct that enhances the efficacy of standard antibiotics against common CF pathogens such as *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* and *Burkholderia cepacia* complex. NovaBiotics is developing Lynovex in both oral (capsule/tablet) forms for the short-term treatment of acute pulmonary exacerbations and as an inhaled dry powder for long-term maintenance therapy. The drug has received orphan drug designation from the FDA and has completed Phase 2 clinical trials.
