LyoCryo

LyoCryo is a pathogen-reduced, lyophilized cryoprecipitate product developed by Cerus Corporation in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). It is designed as a shelf-stable, room-temperature, and portable treatment for traumatic bleeding, particularly for use in remote combat and civilian point-of-injury settings. The product is an extension of the INTERCEPT Blood System for Cryoprecipitation, which utilizes amotosalen and ultraviolet A light to inactivate a broad range of pathogens. Unlike standard cryoprecipitate, which requires frozen storage and time-consuming thawing, LyoCryo is freeze-dried to allow for rapid reconstitution and ease of transport without the need for cold chain logistics, addressing a critical need for immediate hemostatic intervention in trauma care.
