Overview

Lyophilized Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (L-FMT) is an investigational live biotherapeutic product developed by the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health). [3, 5] It is a freeze-dried, powdered formulation of fecal microbiota sourced from healthy donors, designed for oral administration in capsules. [1, 3, 4] L-FMT is intended to treat recurrent *Clostridioides difficile* infection (CDI) by restoring a healthy and diverse gut microbiome. [1, 2] The introduction of a healthy microbial community helps to competitively exclude the pathogenic *C. difficile* bacteria, resolving the infection and preventing relapse. [7] The lyophilized format offers advantages over fresh or frozen preparations, including prolonged shelf life at standard refrigerator temperatures, ease of storage and shipping, and a more convenient administration method.
