Lyophilized Microbiota is an investigational live biotherapeutic product developed by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) for the treatment of recurrent *Clostridioides difficile* infection (CDI). The therapy consists of a complex community of intestinal bacteria derived from screened healthy donors, which is filtered and freeze-dried (lyophilized) to create a stable, encapsulated inoculum. Administered orally, the product is designed to restore microbial diversity and functional balance within the gut microbiome. By re-establishing colonization resistance, the transplanted microbiota outcompetes *C. difficile* pathogens and restores normal bile acid metabolism, thereby preventing further recurrences of the infection. It has been evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials comparing its safety and efficacy to frozen microbiota delivered via retention enema.
