Overview
Lyophilized plasma is a freeze-dried human plasma product developed by HemCon Medical Technologies, primarily under contract for the US Army. It is intended for the emergency treatment of hemorrhage and coagulation factor deficiencies in environments where refrigeration for fresh frozen plasma (FFP) is unavailable. The product is created by separating plasma from whole blood and undergoing a lyophilization process to create a stable powder that can be reconstituted and administered intravenously. Clinical data from a Phase 1 study indicated that the product maintains essential coagulation factor levels and is safe for infusion. Development ceased as HemCon Medical Technologies is no longer in business.
