Overview

Lyophilized platelet-rich fibrin (Ly-PRF) is a stabilized, freeze-dried formulation of second-generation platelet concentrate derived from autologous blood. Unlike fresh platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), which must be used immediately, the lyophilization process preserves the dense three-dimensional fibrin network and stabilizes bioactive growth factors, extending the product's shelf life and allowing for easier clinical handling. Ly-PRF acts as a bioactive scaffold and reservoir for essential growth factors, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). It is primarily used in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering to promote bone regeneration, angiogenesis, and wound healing by providing a sustained release of these factors, which in turn stimulates the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells.
