LyoPlas

LyoPlas is a freeze-dried (lyophilized) human plasma product used for transfusion, primarily in the management of major trauma, severe bleeding, and coagulopathies. It is produced from single donors and contains all coagulation factors, fibrinolytic proteins, their inhibitors, and other plasma proteins at levels similar to those found in fresh frozen plasma (FFP). The product undergoes pathogen reduction processes such as solvent/detergent treatment to enhance safety. After donation, the plasma is quarantined for at least four months and only released after repeated negative donor tests[1][9]. Lyophilization allows storage at room temperature for extended periods (up to 24 months), rapid reconstitution with sterile water within minutes, and use in prehospital or austere environments where conventional FFP storage is impractical[2][6]. Clinical studies have shown that its hemostatic efficacy is comparable to FFP when used as part of massive transfusion protocols. It has an excellent safety record with adverse reaction rates similar to FFP[6][7].
