Lysergic acid amide is a naturally occurring psychoactive lysergamide of the ergoline family, structurally similar to lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) but with lower potency and prominent sedative and vasoconstrictive effects.[2][6] It is found in significant and highly variable concentrations in seeds of several plants such as Argyreia nervosa (Hawaiian baby woodrose), Ipomoea tricolor, and Turbina (Rivea) corymbosa, where it is the predominant ergot alkaloid.[2][6] Lysergic acid amide acts primarily as a partial agonist at serotonin 5‑HT2A receptors and likely other serotonergic sites, producing psychedelic effects (euphoria, altered perception, hallucinations) together with frequent adverse effects including nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, and hypertension.[2] It has been marketed as a “legal high” and is sometimes used recreationally or experimentally for headache disorders such as cluster headache, but clinical data are limited and intoxications with severe neuropsychiatric and cardiovascular complications have been reported.[2]
