Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lysergic acid diethylamide D-tartrate is the tartrate salt form of the semi-synthetic psychedelic compound D-lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), which is derived from ergot alkaloids. It functions as a potent agonist at multiple G protein-coupled receptors, with its primary psychedelic effects mediated through the 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A (5-HT2A). Beyond serotonin receptors, it also interacts with dopamine and adrenergic receptors. Historically developed by Sandoz and marketed as Delysid for psychiatric research, the compound is currently undergoing a resurgence in clinical development. Modern pharmaceutical companies, such as MindMed (developing it as MM-120), are investigating its efficacy in treating generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and other treatment-resistant psychiatric conditions. The D-tartrate salt is preferred in pharmaceutical applications due to its crystalline stability and solubility.
