Overview

Lysine vasopressin (also known as lypressin or Lysipressin) is a cyclic nonapeptide hormone that functions as an antidiuretic. It is the porcine form of the antidiuretic hormone, differing from arginine vasopressin by having a lysine at position 8 instead of an arginine. Lysine vasopressin acts primarily on the kidneys to promote water reabsorption and reduce urine output, thereby concentrating urine and conserving body water. It also increases blood pressure by inducing moderate vasoconstriction through its action on specific G-protein-coupled receptors in vascular smooth muscle. Clinically, it has been used to treat diabetes insipidus and to improve blood pressure in cases of hypotension or shock[1][2][4][5]. Its use in humans has largely been replaced by desmopressin.
