Overview

Lysocin E is a novel cyclic lipopeptide (specifically a 37-membered depsipeptide) antibiotic originally isolated from the soil bacterium *Lysobacter* sp. strain RH2180-5. It exhibits potent, rapid bactericidal activity against Gram-positive pathogens, including methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA) and *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. Lysocin E exerts its antibacterial effect through a unique mechanism of action, directly binding to menaquinone (vitamin K2) in the bacterial cell membrane, which leads to membrane disruption, respiratory chain inhibition, and rapid cell lysis. It has demonstrated robust therapeutic efficacy in various animal models of infection, including silkworm and mouse models.
