LYSP-18x is a recombinant lysin-based antimicrobial enzyme being developed by Lysigen for the treatment of eczema (atopic dermatitis) associated with *Staphylococcus aureus* colonization. The drug functions as a recombinant lysin enzyme that specifically targets and degrades the peptidoglycan layer of the bacterial cell wall. This action causes rapid osmotic bacteriolysis of *S. aureus*, including both methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) strains. By reducing the bacterial load of *S. aureus* on the skin, which is a known trigger for inflammation and flare-ups in atopic dermatitis, LYSP-18x aims to provide a targeted antimicrobial therapy without the broad-spectrum concerns of traditional antibiotics. It is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
