Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LysPSPa-IDR-1018 is an engineered fusion endolysin developed by researchers at Alagappa University for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). It is created by integrating the synthetic immunomodulatory peptide IDR-1018 with the PSPa phage-encoded endolysin (LysPSPa). LysPSPa-IDR-1018 exhibits a dual mechanism of action: it exerts potent bactericidal and biofilm-disrupting activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, while simultaneously promoting wound healing and immunomodulation. In preclinical studies, the fusion protein demonstrated significant wound-healing potential in human gingival fibroblasts and enhanced cell migration, accompanied by elevated expression of interleukin-10 (IL-10) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in macrophage cells.
